About...
The development of molecular-based detection methods (PCR, RT-PCR, hybridization,
microhybridization) of plant viruses and phytoplasmas infecting fruit trees and small
fruits represent the main orientation of the department. We map virus sequence variability,
area of virus occurrence in plant hosts and the etiology of virus-caused diseases. We are
able to propagate viruses in laboratory host plants and prepare antisera immunisation with
natural or recombinant antigens.
The department is appointed function as the Reference Phytosanitary Diagnostic Laboratory
for the diagnostic and monitoring of selected quarantine plant viruses and virus-related
organisms.
